Two Electoral Commission Officers of the Savannah region have been picked up by the Northern regional Police unit in Tamale this afternoon for allegedly registering NPP members in Vitting, a suburb of the Tamale South Constituency. The arrest was initiated upon a tip off by some citizen vigilantes and the opposition NDC.
Mumuni Abbila Yussif and Mohammed Yushaw Kongsoha who are Electoral Officers assigned to the Salaga North Constituency, specifically Kpanshegu registration center were caught this morning registering persons purported to be members of the ruling National Patriotic Party in Vitting, Tamale. The said EC officials are currently in police custody
Speaking to the press this afternoon, Maleek Basintale, the NDC’s Savannah Regional Communications Officer said “ The Biometric Verification Device (BVD) kit was said to have broken down yesterday and was meant to be sent to Damongo, the regional capital for maintenance and be brought back to continue with the registration process…. lo and behold, the machine found itself in the tamale south constituency registering NPP members”
He added “we are sending a caution that operation “ protect your polling station” is on course. The boot for boot will be manifested and anybody who will be caught anywhere in the region or any part of the country will be dealt with severely before brought to the law authorities”
The machine in question is that of the Salaga North constituency. However,it was found in the Tamale South constituency this morning and had so far reportedly registered 12 persons believed to be NPP members.
