The NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater- Accra region of Ghana, John Dumelo, has indicated that he’ll ensure the enforcement of the Rent Control Act when he’s given the nod to represent his people in Parliament.
He took to his social media page (Twitter) to disclose his intentions claiming “ how can we (youth esp) survive in an economy where we have to pay 2 years rent upfront?”
This post is likely a sequel to an incident that happened in his constituency. Around 10:30 am Friday, fire razed down a good number of kiosks serving as temporary accommodation for squatters, leaving them displaced and reducing them to statistics of homelessness.
The Rent Control Law, 1986 (PNDCL 138) was passed to regulate the relationship between tenants and landlords in Ghana. In order to do this, it set up Rent and Housing Committees where parties could go in order to resolve their differences.
