Gabby Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party and Managing Partner at Africa Legal Associates, expressed his sentiments in an interview with Umar Sanda on FACE to FACE.
Speaking on Citi Tv, Mr Gabby said “Sometimes, I think society is also unfair to my family and I’ll say so because it is not uncommon for societies to have some families that have historically dedicated a big chunk of their lives to serving the public good and my family happens to be that.
He added, “They fought against the colonial masters, the Big Six, you can find about three of them in there, Akuffo Addo’s family. Even they opposed Nkrumah, his Finance minister was an uncle , his Interior minister an uncle so when you look at it from that view, almost every government has had them. It’s a tradition of public service “
His statements were in relation to the claims of nepotism and cronyism against the government of President Akuffo Addo and the tag “De facto Prime Minister “ on he, Mr. Gabby. “Way back in 2012, I said I’m not interested in political office”
“Perhaps because of the work I’ve done prior to Akuffo Addo being elected , the expectation was that I was going to be appointed. I’m not even on any board”. He asserted this to the reason behind people calling him powerful and influential in the Nana Addo government.
The Managing Partner is of the view that each President has the right to choose the people he thinks can deliver hence his reason for not criticizing the erstwhile John Mahama administration.
He denied claims made by Sam George that the government intends on giving him a channel from GBC. Mr. Gabby stated emphatically “ First of all let me put it on record , ABC Ltd which owns Asaase radio has not put in any application for DDT. There’s no such application. Let me repeat we have not applied for a DDT license. He cautioned, “On matters like this, i don’t think Sam George should be the one we rely on please.
