Office of the Hon. Member of Parliament for North Dayi Constituency, Ms. Joycelyn Tetteh, in partnership with Mrs. Belinda Klutse, wife of Torgbe Tornu V, Chief of Aveme Dra, organized a spelling bee competition for basic schools in Aveme Sabadu Circuit of North Dayi District, located in the Volta region of Ghana. The event took place on Friday, July 9, 2021.

The spelling bee competition saw seventy (70) Primary school pupils and fifteen (15) Junior High School pupils from seven (7) basic schools, competing for the ultimate prize, which included cash and stationery.

The event was witnessed by Elders of Aveme And Sabadu Traditional area, officials of the Ghana Education Service in North Dayi District, parents, teachers and well wishers of the contestants as well as some members of the community. The colleagues of the contestants were not left out of the event as they appeared in their numbers to cheer their representatives.


The spelling bee competition is aimed at encouraging learning and enhancing the usage of the Ewe indigenous language amongst students.
According to Hon. Joycelyn Tetteh, the spelling bee competition was organized to develop self-confidence, communication and public speaking skills of students within her constituency and to preserve the cultural heritage of the Ewe ethnicity. Images from event.
