Editor in Chief of New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr has cautioned the government of Ghana to tread cautiously. His comment was in relation to the current back and forth between the Ministry of Communication and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
Speaking on Newsfile with Host, Samson Lardy, he asked that the government should stay away from the matter as he does not see them having much grounds on the matter
Earlier this week, the Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu, directed the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to reduce its six channels to three in order to offer redundancy on the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) network.
This generated mixed reactions from the public especially the Minority in Parliament and other Civil Society Organizations like the Media Foundation for West Africa.
The GBC workers union also embarked on a protest against the decision. They believe this decision is unconstitutional and infringes on the freedom and independence of the media. The matter is currently before the National Media Commission for redress
